23rd June 2017

Good morning everyone, it's been a while since I posted, I've had a few problems with the blog, but I hope it is now working ok. Today I have some Japanese style bags I have enjoyed making.,also a quilt which is in the process of being made.

Patchwork Quilt

This is the first time I have made a quilt,  I bought the Tartan squares from Boyes. I haven't quite finished it yet as I have to go and buy some more fabric. Just waiting till I need other fabric from the other shop I go to.

Japanese Style Bag in Beige

This Fabric is the same as the Grey bag  below, it's lovely to sew.  It is lined with spotted beige cotton  and the pockets have been added to the inside of the bag together with the key rings.   I tried using a pair of handles that you fit with screws and found they were quite fiddly, I  prefer these handles which are much easier to use, they have the prongs that you bend over.

The flowers have brooch fasteners sewn to them so that you can use the bag with or without them.

Japanese Style Bag in Tartan

This fabric was only £2 a metre ,which I thought excellent value,.Ideal for making gifts for Christmas presents.   I love the tartan and I already had the Sizzix Scottie Dog die..

The Scottie dog is cut from a velvet fabric a freebie from a friend, which doesn't fray , I appliqued this on the sewing machine.

I lined one bag with black fabric and the other with red.  Zip pockets on either side of the bag the full width and depth of the bag, together with key rings actually  sewn onto the inside of the pockets.

Japanese Style Bag in two shades of Grey

This is a lovely free pattern I have used from So Sew Easy, it is a Japanese style bag which I find very handy. I have made a few alterations to the lining of the bag, adding extra deep and wide pockets on either side.,with zips. I find these very handy for glasses ,keys and anything that you want to keep safe. I also added key rings to the inside of the zip pockets to fasten your door and car keys to.

The bag is made from a remnant of fabric which is dark and light grey, from a curtain shop,it's a  strong silky fabric.the flowers are
cut out with a Sizzix die,I added a brooch fastener to each flower so that you can use the bag with or without them

I lined the bag with grey spotted cotton (a bargain at only £2 a metre. Zips on both sides with  key rings sewn into the lining. I took me a while to fathom out the best way to do this lining, but very happy with the results,The  pockets are the width and depth of the bag.,so quite big.

29th April 2017

A travel/overnight bag I made, using remnants of fabric. I decided to use contrasting fabrics.  I used  Soft and Stable from ByAnnie.com ,to make the bag more sturdy. I added  extra zipped deep  pockets the full width and depth of the bag with key ring holders.,to keep documents, keys and purse ,glasses etc.

On the back of the bag I added an extra strap, this fits over my trolley suitcase and the bag then rests on top of the suitcase, saving me having to carry it.

I lined the bag with some lining fabric I had in my stash. There is a full width zip attached across the top of the bag.

29th April 2017

My daughter sent me a photograph of a Beach bag that she liked, I decided to have a go at making something similar.  I cut a long length of material ,wadding and lining and embroidered them together using different stitches and shading of cottons., to give a contrast. I lined the bag with the floral material and added two deep zipped pockets., adding key rings to both sides for keys ,purse glasses etc., so that nothing was lost at the beach.

The lining with one of the deep wide pockets with zip

29th April 2017

I enjoyed making this bag it's only the second one I have made. I used a pattern purchased from ByAnnie.com, it was very easy to follow. The fabrics I used were remnants from a curtain fabric shop. The spotted lining I thought was a nice contrast.  I inserted extra deep zipped pockets on either side of the inside of the bag, adding  a sewn in key ring. I  thought the deep pockets were suitable for purse ,keys ,glasses etc.

The spotted lining.

Summer Dress

I made this dress ready for the summer, I haven't made any for a few years, but got the sewing bug and made  four.  I changed the neck design and sleeved on some of them. It's quick and easy to sew., and the fabric only cost £2 a metre, which is a bargain.

This one has a V neck.

Blue Petite Pieced Bag

This is a small bag using a free pattern from  Jo-ann.com , it is lined and quilted

Tee Shirts.

I experimented with these tee shirts, I had bought a Craft Robo  which was no longer being used ( they had bought a new Brother cut and Scan)

I had never used one before, but  managed to cut some cards out. I then decided to have a go with the iron on vinyl . I chose the designs from the Silhouette  Store.  The plane idea was for a joke as my grandson was going to Australia for a holiday.

He wasn't very impressed but I enjoyed making them.
